Grateful Garcia Gathering in Thorneville, Ohio-promoter cancels NRPS show
July 5, 2008
As of July 1, the promoter of the festival named Grateful Garcia Gathering in Thorneville, Ohio cancelled NRPS from our contract. The promoter, one Tim Sun Dawg, broke our deal to play this festival, a gig that had been booked for the better part of a year without ever paying the necessary deposit.
This is completely unacceptable and entirely unprofessional, we will pursue whatever action is necessary to recover our losses.
Another point which can never be overlooked: A couple of the groups who were signed as NRPS were, seem to have opted not to stand with us by voluntarily withdrawing themselves from this aborted project. Time will soon tell if they have a conscience which matches those of us in New Riders. The A.F. of M isn’t geared up for handling events at this level – musicians have only the bond and unity among themselves to actively fight the sort of irresponsible practice of signing artists without an escrow account to back their contractual obligations.
If a promoter screws one group of artists, the others involved should help to collapse this sort of unprofessional behavior so that this sort of fraud cannot be perpetuated on other bands, or the music fans. To set up an event in the name of Jerry Garcia and to break the contract is beyond the pale. This promoter is now refusing to refund the advance ticket monies already paid by the folks who originally paid to see NRPS.

Jerry is rolling over in his grave right now. Screwing good people while using his name.
The Grateful Garcia Gathering should be boycotted and the promoter tar’d and feathered.
How are the other bands like JGB and Moonalice still playing for this guy? I am really surprised that they are not supporting NRPS and other bands by boycotting this joke of a festival. I love how the guy tried to blame it on the bands too….what a jerk.
thanks for coming forward Buddy and shedding some truth to the matter!!!
this guy sundawg is way out of his league trying to throw a festival.i feel sorry for all the NRPS and Donna & the trickers fans.sundog has posted a few times now that they can F-OFF if they ask him for any kind of refund.and when we drilled him on it he says not one person asked for a refund.well that just isn’t true!! one kid posted on the ratdog message board that his brother has been trying to reach sundawg by e-mail with no luck.he was only going to the fest because the NRPS were gonna be there.true or not, this festival ditched two of it’s main acts and the ticket buyers deserve some kind of refund/discount.
screwing the bands, screwing the fans………i hope this festival is a bust and sundawg loses his shirt.he needs to learn a lesson on how NOT to screw people over!!!
BOYCOTT THE GGG!!!!!!!!!!!
Stand your ground, Buddy. Anyone that would pull a stunt like that while hiding behind Jerry’s name is bad to the core. And shame on the other bands who elected not to support you guys.
“Grateful Garcia Gathering”? Come on … what would Jerry do, folks?
Legend Valley has gone downhill, it is not all Tims fault. I believe that the owner of the venue Steve Trickle has a lot to do with it. My boyfriend and I were supposed to play the 3gs as well, but we were asked not to come back to play. I also know that Donna Jean and the trickters won’t be performing either. I am boycotting Legend Valley and any of his associates. We have put in a lot of hard work and hours keeping that place cleaned up, and in doing so Steve has showed no appreciation. I lost my job because he begged me to help him clean up after hookahville, thinking he was family and that he would pay me, I stayed an extra week and helped. He gave me 50 bucks. Shows what a great asshole he is. This whole thing makes me wonder if he has even paid anyone that is supposed to be playing….
PUHLEESSEE! First off Trickle is not even running this, he has rented his land out to this Tim guy to have the 3 GGG’s festival. So please everyone don’t listen to thadankfairy on this one. Tim is the one behind this festival.
thadankfairy-You act like he’s a horrible person and I have only gotten smiles and good vibes from him. You shouldn’t have stayed an extra week and lost your job over cleaning up, I’m sure he had plenty of other folks to do it and he would have understood that you had a day job. Don’t blame him for your stupidness on staying to help rather going to your job.
And please just get your facts straight before posting, I hate to see a good guy get his name put in dirt because of someone that doesn’t know their facts.
Don’t even try to drag Steve Trickle or Legend Valley into this, he has NOTHING to do with the festival except that he rented his property.
Hey Buddy,
I was really looking forward to catching you at the 3G’s. Dang, glad I had not bought my ticket yet, as I certainly will not be going there now, period!!! I sure hope MoonAlice, and Melvin/JGB will support NRPS/DonnaJean and walk away from this hoax of a 3G show. I will now set my sights on Nelson’s Quarry, and wish you could be there too.
Yep, let us never forget Jerry, nor Mike from Strausberg, CO (MayDaze), and the importance of the music.
i know steve trickle and if he asked sombody not to come back you really must have disrespected him or someone! he trusts everyone until they break it and he gives more chances than most!honesty try that!as far as i can see steve trusted sundog as well! very rarely does he ever turn any head away that at least has a road story!he has been an upstanding member of our music cmmunity for years and is easily measured by the fruits of his labor!so many of us dont even get on these computers i only got lucky to catch this one.the performers somtimes cant jst drop out.maybe u should ask them why.i have seen so much love at legend valley that this is petty in the big picture.non corporate venue =no corporate money.all you have is one owner giving the little guy a chance based on a hand shake.if the little guy cant do it then he must do the right thing the owner who loves these bands as much as we do has already done the right thing hasnt he! sincerly l.o.t.
